This weekend is all about the festivals – our favorite summer pastime. End your week the right way: enjoying some of the top summer attractions that lil’ Rhody has to offer.

ALL WEEKEND  

The Oakland Beach Carnival is a community fair to benefit the Oakland Beach Carousel Foundation and the Jonah.  This weekend long event will offer food, games, raffles and discount coupons offered at the neighboring restaurants. Cross your fingers for great weather for the fireworks display Saturday night. 

CumberlandFest, the annual Blackstone Valley festival, is back and better than ever. Brace yourself for four days of fun, food, and fireworks, with headlining events including a 5k road race, Battle of the Bands rock concert, and the 23rd annual Hot Rod Show. Spend a day (or four) and be a part of one of the largest summer attractions in Northern Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival is one of the top film festivals in the northeast, with 200+ film screenings, filmmaking workshops and meet and greets at locations throughout the state. The festival, ongoing since Tuesday, ends Sunday, and highlights for the weekend include the Providence Underground Film Fest.

Bolivian Festival/24th Annual Urkupina festival. This two-day event at the Bank of America City Center features over 400 dancers in colorful folkloric costumes parading their way towards the heart of Providence. Enjoy authentic Bolivian cuisine and vibrant dancing and music.

The Annual Block Island Arts Festival is back for its eight year. Head on over to the island to discover one-of-a-kind pieces crafted by local and regional artists.

FRIDAY

Spend your Friday sailing in Newport. The folks over at 12 Meter Charters are offering you the chance board the America's Cup 12 Meter yacht for a two-hour sail around Newport.  For adventure seekers, this is your chance to participate in the sailing of a yacht with the assistance of the captain and crew – no experience is necessary. Thel less daring among us can just sit back, relax and enjoy the sights and beauty of Newport.

SATURDAY

The Newport Waterfront Reggae Festival is back for its fourth year with world-renowned reggae legends including Check Fenda, Bushman, Anthony B, DJ Realm & Jah Soldier of OmegaSound. Feel the positive vibes while groovin’ to the very best of ska, roots and reggae

This weekend's WaterFire Lighting showcases Capoeira Batizado, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, from Grupo Ondas and Fraternidad Folklorica Boliviana dancers performing the traditional pre-Columbian Aymara ritual of fire and water. A torch procession to the Bolivian Urkupina Festival in the Bank of America City Center follows.

The Summer Rhode Island Brew Fest at Ninigret Park will host 40 breweries with over 150 styles of beer to sample. And what goes better with a nice cold beer than delicious food provided by by RI's best food trucks?

The Southside Community Land Trust 5th Annual Open Garden Day is a can't-miss event for all green thumbs. Learn about fall succession planting, sample grilled pizzas with locally-produced toppings, tour a state-of-the-art chicken coop and witness an in-garden dance performance. End your day with a celebratory potluck with fellow urban gardeners and neighbors.

River Glow 2013 features floating bonfires on the Pawcatuck River in Westerly, accompanied by live music, delicious food booths, death defying fire jugglers, towering stilt walkers, life size puppets and much more.

AS220 Foo Fest is a one-day carnivalesque street festival. The fest transforms downtown Providence’s Empire Street into a full blown block party attended by over 5,000 people from across the region. Enjoy twelve hours of music, art, family activities, local food and more. 

SUNDAY

Diana Ross: The Greatest Hits Tour comes to the Providence Performing Arts Center stage. The legendary icon will perform her most beloved songs in a spectacular live show featuring breathtaking costumes and stage designs.

The Dominican Festival this Sunday will start with a parade to Roger Williams Park, where the festival will commence. Enjoy delicious food and traditional performances that will be focused on local artists and folkloric dancing.

The Green Market Festival is back at the Farmer's Daughter and Landscape Creations of RI in South Kingstown. This family event features lots of activities for the kids, great food and music, and highlights the bounty and traditions of the local nursery industry.

The  5th Annual Ride 'Round Rhody Bike-A-Thon  is a fundraising event to help find a cure for cancer. This year bikers will choose from 20-, 50-, 75-mile routes, and all proceeds will benefit local cancer patients.
